It takes a lot to laugh
Professor
Maurice Cockrill, The Keeper of the Royal Academy of Arts and Head of
The Royal Academy Schools gives his opinion of the critically-acclaimed
Bob Dylan on Canvas Exhibition.
Why does the gallery owner say "ten final subjects?" Is this supposed to be the end of Dylan's painting career? He doesn't strike me as someone who can simply stop the creative process.
Hi Doc, sorry to be so long getting back to you. My response to your question after a bit of research is this: The gallery owner use of "ten final subjects" was referring to the number of paintings in the exhibition. The first painting of Train Tracks (which has 2 versions in this particular exhibition)and is critiqued by Prof. Cockerill, is followed by 10 more or final subjects. I counted 11 paintings in total with the notion that the two versions of Train Tracks = 1 painting. Maybe you will enjoy Halcyon's page-flip as much as I did and it will probably answer your question better than I have. I'm going to put the page-flip link above as an afterthought to my blog post "It Takes a Lot to Laugh". And thanks for making me do some much needed homework about the Drawn Blank Series.
