The first photo of Elvis Presley was taken at Parchman Farm, brought by his mother at the age of three to visit his father. Vernon Presley had been sentenced to three years of hard labor for forging an $8 check. Elvis is seen above with his parents against the backdrop of the Parchman Farm wall. (Mississippi State Prison).
Parchman Farm Guitars
On December 22, 1961, just a month following completion of his self-titled Columbia debut LP, Bob Dylan visited the Minneapolis apartment of his friend Bonnie Beecher, where he recorded some 26 songs to reel-to-reel tape. Known previously by the somewhat confusing catch-all Minnesota Hotel Tape, this material remains one of the seminal sessions of Dylan's career, official or otherwise. Music of extraordinary intimacy and confidence, Bonnie Beecher’s Apartment represents probably our best insight into what made the budding Dylan such a captivating and unprecedented talent.
