The train, inaugurated in 1947, originally ran from Cincinnati, Ohio to New Orleans, Louisiana, via Louisville, Nashville, Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile, and later via a connection at Bowling Green, Kentucky to Memphis, Tennessee.
After playing only somewhat unintelligible version of the song, Dylan reintroduced "Humming Bird" as a sharp show opener with some regularity in the late summer, again on the fall 2001 Never Ending tour in support of "Love and Theft" and then again on the spring 2002 European swing.
